Tachyum has unveiled new details about its TDIMM technology, emphasizing how it is reshaping the future of AI and computing. By dramatically increasing memory bandwidth and capacity at lower costs, TDIMM enables AI models that surpass today’s capabilities by several magnitudes. Moreover, the company highlights that this innovation could slash the estimated cost of an OpenAI-scale data center from $3 trillion with 250,000 megawatts of power to just $27 billion and 540 megawatts.
The company has also open-sourced the TDIMM (which delivers 281GB/s bandwidth) to accelerate global progress in AI and computing. According to Tachyum, its Prodigy Ultimate processor now delivers up to 21 times higher AI rack performance than NVIDIA’s Rubin Ultra NVL576. Additionally, the bandwidth of Tachyum’s DDR5 DIMM increases by 5.5 times from 51 GB/s to 281 GB/s. With 24 channels, Prodigy Ultimate achieves 6.7 TB/s, representing an 11x increase over traditional 12-channel CPUs. TDIMM supports modules ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB, and TSV technology can multiply capacity up to eight times, delivering a massive 3 PB per Prodigy node.

Furthermore, Tachyum explains that while standard DDR5 RDIMM carries 146 signals, TDIMM uses 206 signals just a 38% increase while doubling bandwidth. From a cost perspective, TDIMM requires 10% fewer DRAM chips and is projected to be 10% cheaper overall. Despite the added capabilities, the physical dimensions remain compatible with existing DDR5 RDIMM and MRDIMM setups, making integration simpler and cost-effective.
The engineering adjustments required are minimal, since the contact pin pitch aligns with DDR5 SODIMM at 0.5 mm. Only the plastic mold needs modification a relatively easy step. TDIMM also activates fewer DRAM chips per access than DDR5 RDIMM, resulting in lower overall power consumption despite the higher bandwidth. Using next-generation DRAM will bring TDIMM power usage close to current DDR5 RDIMM levels.
Tachyum also confirms that TDIMM can double the bandwidth and capacity of DDR5 without waiting for the future DDR6 standard. By simplifying changes to the controller and PHY, adoption could begin within a year. Looking ahead, minor updates to DDR6 components could double bandwidth to 13.5 TB/s by 2027, surpassing Nvidia Rubin’s 13 TB/s and further evolutionary upgrades could deliver 27 TB/s by 2028.
By making TDIMM open source and royalty-free, Tachyum aims to encourage widespread global adoption. The company notes that even China, which lagged in DDR5, can leapfrog into next-generation memory with TDIMM production as early as next year.
