Penske Logistics has announced the full-scale implementation of a new artificial intelligence (AI) platform from Augment, following the success of a six-month pilot program. With this move, the company continues to advance its digital transformation strategy while strengthening its already robust track-and-trace capabilities. More importantly, the new AI-driven solution equips Penske’s operating teams with an additional, powerful resource to capture real-time freight status updates and deliver greater transparency to customers across the supply chain.

By integrating seamlessly with leading transportation management systems (TMS), the Augment platform is designed to improve the ease, speed, and visibility of freight movement. As a result, both customers and associates benefit from faster access to accurate shipment data, even in today’s increasingly complex and dynamic logistics environment. In turn, this helps Penske further enhance the reliability and consistency of its logistics operations.

“We’re well underway with executing our AI strategy and our partnership with Augment is one of many AI-related and tech-enabled supply chain initiatives we are implementing to enhance the experience for our customers,” said Jeff Jackson, president of Penske Logistics. “AI at this scale is about giving customers more convenience, certainty and clarity in an increasingly complex and dynamic operating environment.”

During the initial phase of the rollout, Penske will rely on Augment’s AI teammate to validate the status of approximately 600,000 loads. By eliminating repetitive, manual tasks and improving follow-up workflows with carrier dispatchers, Penske expects to achieve productivity gains of up to 30 to 40 percent. Consequently, these efficiencies will extend across inbound freight, middle-mile transportation, and final-mile delivery, while creating even more value as the platform continues to scale.

In addition, Augment’s AI teammate complements Penske’s existing freight visibility tools by proactively initiating outreach when shipment updates are unavailable. Through calls, emails, or text messages, the AI connects directly with carrier dispatch representatives using their preferred communication channels. This flexible approach has been positively received by the carrier community, as it reduces friction and streamlines communication. Furthermore, the platform dynamically adapts to each carrier’s escalation preferences and seamlessly involves human operators when exceptions arise, ensuring timely and accurate information flows into Penske’s systems.

“We’re grateful for the trust Penske has placed in us and proud to partner with a team that understands the AI transformation in logistics is bigger than bolting on another tool it’s an opportunity to rethink how work gets done,” said Harish Abbott, co-founder and CEO of Augment who previously co-founded Deliverr (acquired by Shopify). “That shift requires a logistics-native approach that works across the systems and channels teams already use, supports nuanced freight workflows end to end, and gets smarter as it learns how the business actually runs. By moving early, Penske is among those setting the pace for the next era of supply chain execution, and we’re excited to build that future together.”

Notably, Augment’s AI teammate operates across the full order-to-cash lifecycle, providing end-to-end support throughout the logistics process. It understands shipment context, proactively resolves issues, and works across email, phone, TMS, portals, and chat. From quoting and dispatch to tracking, appointment scheduling, document collection, and billing, the platform reduces load touches, shortens cycle times, and frees up human teams to focus on higher-value, strategic work.
