VDURA, a leader in AI and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, has appointed Garth Gibson as its first Chief Technology and AI Officer (CTAIO). Gibson, renowned for co-inventing RAID and pioneering parallel file systems, previously served as President & CEO of the Vector Institute, where he advanced global AI infrastructure. He now returns to VDURA to spearhead an ambitious mission: reinventing the storage stack for the AI era.
Gibson’s contributions over the past four decades have fundamentally shaped modern data infrastructure. As the co-inventor of RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), he established the benchmark for scalable and reliable storage. Additionally, his groundbreaking work on parallel file systems at Carnegie Mellon University’s Parallel Data Lab and as co-founder of Panasas enabled the scale-out architectures that power today’s HPC and AI workloads. At the Vector Institute, Gibson influenced the development of generative AI infrastructure, spanning research clusters to billion-dollar-scale AI facilities.
