Hitachi Vantara, the data storage, hybrid cloud, and infrastructure subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., announced that it is moving forward with a strategic partnership with Supermicro, a leading IT solutions provider for AI, cloud, storage, and 5G/edge technologies. This collaboration merges Supermicro’s high-performance GPU and AI computing capabilities with the scale and efficiency of Hitachi Vantara’s Virtual Storage Platform One (VSP One), offering enterprises a robust foundation for AI-driven infrastructure, mission-critical applications, and data-intensive workloads.
The companies are currently finalizing an agreement that will allow Supermicro to offer VSP One to its customers, while Hitachi Vantara will sell Supermicro servers, storage, GPUs, and hardware systems. This initiative is expected to expand global availability through established distribution channels.
AI Authority Trend: Hitachi Launches Global AI Factory to Drive Physical AI Innovation
As enterprises face skyrocketing data volumes and increasing expectations for AI-driven insights, the need for streamlined infrastructure has never been greater. A recent survey revealed that 85% of organizations already leverage data lakehouses for AI model development, and 67% plan to run most of their analytics on these platforms within the next three years, up from 55% today. However, challenges such as fragmented systems, slow data movement, and rising costs often hinder AI scalability. By integrating compute and storage with enterprise-grade support, Hitachi Vantara and Supermicro aim to help businesses optimize their AI investments efficiently.
At the heart of the partnership is VSP One, Hitachi Vantara’s unified data platform that combines block, file, object, and software-defined storage into a single architecture. The platform delivers versatile solutions for various enterprise storage requirements. For instance, VSP One Block paired with Supermicro servers provides an all-flash architecture that supports high throughput, low latency, and substantial IOPS, ideal for AI training and mission-critical workloads. VSP One SDS extends these benefits across hybrid cloud environments, while VSP One Object introduces native support for Amazon S3 Tables and advanced data intelligence services, enabling analytics directly on unstructured data without complex movement or transformation.
“The convergence of Supermicro’s leadership in AI compute with the scale and resiliency of Hitachi Vantara’s VSP One platform marks an important step in building the foundation that will guide the future of enterprise AI,” said Sheila Rohra, CEO of Hitachi Vantara. “As data volumes explode, bringing compute and data closer together will enable scalable workload support without disruption. Coupled with enterprise-class service and support, we are helping organizations gain better control over their data so they can unlock new sources of value and lead in the era of AI-driven business.”

VSP One also powers Hitachi iQ, the company’s AI and data orchestration portfolio. When combined with Supermicro’s high-performance compute and GPU acceleration, Hitachi iQ enables enterprises to manage, govern, and process data efficiently. “Supermicro and Hitachi are collaborating to help enterprises accelerate their adoption and use of AI,” said Vik Malyala, President and Managing Director, EMEA, and Senior Vice President, Technology and AI, Supermicro. “Our AI-optimized compute and storage servers leverage advanced GPUs, CPUs, and NVMe drives. Combined with Hitachi Vantara’s enterprise data management platform and Hitachi iQ portfolio, we can support compute-intensive workloads for dynamic applications, delivering better performance and efficiency for customers.”
The companies plan to distribute VSP One Block, VSP One SDS, and VSP One Object through global channels. The VSP 360 unified control plane will also allow seamless management of storage environments, tracking capacity, performance, and system health, while channel partners will gain access to a wider range of enterprise storage and GPU solutions.
