xMEMS Labs, a pioneer in solid-state MEMS audio and micro thermal solutions, will unveil next-generation AI smart glasses prototypes during its upcoming xMEMS Live Asia seminar series, scheduled for September 16 in Taipei and September 18 in Shenzhen. These prototypes highlight two key innovations: Sycamore, the world’s thinnest and lightest high-fidelity MEMS loudspeaker, and µCooling, the industry’s first in-frame active cooling solution. Together, these advancements are paving the way for slimmer, lighter, and more powerful AI-powered eyewear.
As smart glasses continue to evolve with features such as AI assistants, real-time translation, spatial navigation, and hands-free productivity, both audio performance and thermal management have become critical challenges. Addressing these needs directly, xMEMS is introducing technologies that set a new benchmark for wearable innovation.

To begin with, Sycamore offers crystal-clear, full-bandwidth audio within a frame that measures just 1.28mm thin. This design is up to 70% smaller and 90% lighter than conventional coil speakers, making it virtually invisible within the glasses frame. By eliminating bulky speaker parts, Sycamore makes room for natural AI-powered conversations and rich, immersive music even during long hours of wear.
Meanwhile, µCooling takes on the heat problems that processors and displays typically cause in smart glasses. This solid-state fan-on-a-chip provides silent, vibration-free localized cooling directly from the frame. As a result, it reduces surface temperatures by up to 40% and boosts thermal margins by nearly 70%, ensuring more reliable performance and greater comfort for users.
Highlighting the significance of these innovations, Mike Housholder, VP of Marketing at xMEMS Labs, explained: “Smart glasses are poised to become the next AI interface – transforming how we access information, communicate, and experience the world. But they’ll only succeed if they remain as wearable as they are capable. Sycamore and µCooling remove two of the biggest barriers – speaker bulk and heat – enabling thinner, lighter designs that deliver crystal-clear sound, precise thermal control, and all-day comfort.”

By eliminating traditional hardware limitations, these technologies not only enhance durability and comfort but also free up design space for additional sensors, batteries, and computing power. Ultimately, this makes AI glasses more practical for mainstream, all-day usage.
At xMEMS Live Asia, attendees will experience live demonstrations featuring prototype glasses equipped with:
- Sycamore’s near-field speakers for natural, full-range voice interactions
- µCooling’s advanced thermal management, capable of cooling a 1.5W thermal load directly inside the frames
With registration now open, seats are limited for those eager to witness the future of conversational AI and wearable cooling technologies.
