VAST Data, the AI Operating System company, has strengthened its collaboration with Google Cloud by launching the first fully managed service for the VAST AI Operating System (AI OS). This partnership enables enterprises to deploy the AI OS effortlessly and extend a unified global namespace across hybrid environments. Powered by VAST DataSpace, this solution seamlessly connects clusters running on Google Cloud with on-premises infrastructure eliminating the need for complex migrations and ensuring instant data availability wherever AI workloads operate.

Enterprises have long struggled to run AI models efficiently due to fragmented storage and siloed data pipelines. Migrating vast datasets across environments often takes months and costs millions. With this new partnership, VAST and Google Cloud eliminate data placement challenges, empowering organizations to choose where to run their AI without being limited by where their data resides.

In a recent demonstration, VAST showcased DataSpace’s ability to connect clusters over 10,000 kilometers apart, linking one in the United States with another in Japan. This configuration achieved near real-time access to identical data across both sites while running inference workloads with vLLM. As a result, enterprises can intelligently place workloads running AI models on TPUs in the U.S. and GPUs in Japan without duplicating data or managing separate environments.

“Together with Google Cloud, VAST is building a unified data and computing environment that extends to wherever a customer wants to compute and unleashes the potential of AI by unlocking access to all data everywhere,” said Jeff Denworth, Co-Founder at VAST Data. “Delivered as a managed AI Operating System on Google Cloud, customers can go from zero to production in minutes – we’re turning hybrid complexity into a single, intelligent fabric that provides fast access to data, regardless of where it resides, to accelerate time to value for agentic AI.”

Adding to this, Nirav Mehta, Vice President, Compute Platform at Google Cloud, noted, “Bringing VAST AI Operating System to Google Cloud Marketplace will help customers quickly deploy, manage, and grow the data solution on Google Cloud’s trusted, global infrastructure.”

Recent performance results highlight how VAST AI OS connects seamlessly to Google Cloud Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), optimizing large-scale AI workflows. In testing with Meta’s Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct model, the platform delivered model load speeds rivaling leading cloud-native solutions, ensuring predictable performance even during cold starts.

“The VAST AI OS is redefining what it means to move fast in AI, delivering model load speeds comparable to cloud-native alternatives while providing the full power of an advanced, enterprise-grade AI platform,” said Subramanian Kartik, Chief Scientist at VAST Data.

With VAST on Google Cloud, enterprises can now deploy AI workloads in minutes instead of months, minimize data movement costs, and take advantage of flexible data placement strategies. Furthermore, they can unify training, inference, analytics, and compliance processes under one intelligent platform that adapts seamlessly to both on-premises and cloud environments.

VAST AI OS is now available on Google Cloud, with joint validation and reference guidance accessible for qualified customers and partners aiming to establish a VAST DataSpace spanning Google Cloud and external clusters.
