Vantage Data Centers, a global leader in hyperscale data center solutions, will officially open its second London campus (LHR2) at the end of September. Located in the Park Royal district, the new 194,000-square-foot (18,000 square meters) facility will deliver 20MW of IT capacity. With an investment of £250 million, the project reinforces Vantage’s long-term commitment to strengthening London’s digital infrastructure while boosting the local economy.

Coinciding with the London Design Festival (Sept. 13–21) and in partnership with the Park Royal Design District (PRDD), the LHR2 campus will stand out not only for its technology but also for its cultural impact. The data center will feature one of Europe’s largest permanent public art installations, titled 11 Million Dots. Spanning six stories, the installation honors Park Royal’s industrial past while highlighting its transformation into a vibrant urban hub for both businesses and residents.

Commissioned in collaboration with London-based consultancy Loom, local artist Rafael El Baz created the masterpiece by blending community voices with technology. He gathered ambient sounds, machine noises, and over 120 audio interviews with locals. Transforming these recordings into binary codes and audio waveforms, El Baz crafted 11 million perforations resembling microchips, maps, and cityscapes.

In addition to its cultural significance, Vantage has designed LHR2 with sustainability at its core. The facility meets BREEAM Excellent standards and integrates energy-efficient systems such as air and water source heat pumps to achieve low power usage effectiveness (PUE). Furthermore, the site complies with the Urban Greening Factor and will connect to the local district heating network to repurpose waste heat, showcasing Vantage’s commitment to green innovation.

David Howson, president of EMEA at Vantage Data Centers, emphasized the strategic importance of this launch: “Our unrivalled ability to scale rapidly, as evidenced by the launch of our second campus in London, is helping our global hyperscale customers seize the massive opportunities made possible with cloud computing and AI. This campus was among our UK expansion plans that the Prime Minister referred to at the launch of the U.K. Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan earlier this year.”

He also highlighted the artistic collaboration, noting its role in honoring the community and its history.

Artist Rafael El Baz expressed his vision, stating: “As an artist, this project was about rethinking what a data center can represent. These buildings are usually hidden in plain sight, yet here we’ve shown they can stand proudly as cultural landmarks… it also preserves the memory and identity of the community.”

Currently, Vantage operates two campuses in London. LHR1, located in North Acton, spans 430,000 square feet and will provide 55MW of IT capacity once complete. Additionally, the CWL1 Cardiff campus in South Wales ranks among Europe’s largest. Altogether, these three UK campuses will deliver 223MW of IT capacity across more than 2.6 million square feet, cementing Vantage’s position as a key player in the global data center market.
