Usually, such Presidential policy directives are quickly followed by a detailed implementation plan, with specific taskings and timelines for action from each USG department and agency. This is where we’ll sort the devils in the details, and much will depend upon how they’re implemented.”
While Bryan agrees with the overall pillars of the strategy, he stresses that the success of such a directive depends heavily on its implementation, including clear taskings and timelines across U.S. government agencies.
He cautions that removing regulatory barriers should not come at the cost of national security or civil liberties oversight. Cunningham also critiques the pillar on protecting “Free Speech and American Values,” arguing that allowing any White House to define “American Values” or dictate what can and cannot be included in private sector AI work is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution. It is promising to see they are leveraging respected organizations, such as NIST, for frameworks and standards, and the proposed AI-ISAC signals a proactive federal stance on cybersecurity standards, and the emphasis on “Secure-by-Design AI Technologies” is a promising continuation of essential public-private collaboration. Furthermore, expanded export controls to allies underscore the serious, coordinated approach to AI’s global impact, while the inclusion of biosecurity measures reflects a welcome, if unexpectedly placed, focus on comprehensive safeguards.”
Cybersecurity’s Evolution: AI as a Force Multiplier
Cybersecurity has always evolved alongside technological change – but few shifts have been as fast or profound as the rise of AI. According to Piyush Pandey, CEO of Pathlock, AI already goes far beyond task automation. “From intelligent response automation to behavioral analysis and vulnerability remediation, AI is already adding value within the cybersecurity field,” he said.
Pandey emphasized that AI is not replacing cybersecurity professionals – it’s transforming their roles. As data volumes increase and compliance expectations intensify, AI will be critical for real-time analytics, continuous monitoring, and predictive risk assessments.
“Cybersecurity professionals with a growth mindset will be increasingly valuable,” he added, “as they provide the insights needed to guide AI’s deployment internally.” In other words, AI is not a crutch – it’s an amplifier for skilled human expertise.

Chad Cragle, Chief Information Security Officer at Deepwatch said, “From a CISO perspective, we need a unified cybersecurity framework, similar to other countries’, but with more requirements, to prevent a fragmented approach with constantly evolving state-level mandates.”
Chad added, “The current administration understands that cyber warfare is real and happening daily. A strong, assertive cyber posture, including potential offensive operations, is necessary to deter adversaries. There must be real consequences if critical infrastructure, banks, or healthcare systems are taken offline. We need leaders who take this seriously and act decisively.”
Governance at a Crossroads: The Challenge of AI-Native Software
With AI now playing a direct role in software generation, the concept of governance must be redefined. Jamie Boote, Associate Principal Security Consultant at Black Duck, pointed out how this mirrors past technological shifts from cloud to mobile, but with even higher stakes.
“The role governance plays in a security organization is foundational,” Boote explained. “It sets the vision for what security is and how it’s achieved.” As AI begins to “write software,” the pace of change is outstripping the ability of current governance frameworks to respond. Categorical best practices are constantly in flux, often outdated the moment they’re published.
“Organizations should instead go back to the role of governance and build a strong vision for what secure AI use looks like,” Boote advised. Rather than chasing regulations, companies must proactively define secure AI use before they’re forced to react to threats or violations.
The Privacy Imperative: AI Without Guardrails Is a Risk Multiplier
Kris Bondi, CEO and Co-Founder of Mimoto, brought attention to the often-overlooked intersection of AI and privacy. Without clear boundaries, she warns, AI could become a threat to the very privacy and rights it’s designed to protect.
“Without carefully constructed guardrails, AI can discover and utilize personal information without regard to impact,” she said. Security efforts that rely heavily on surveillance create new forms of risk. If AI tools are unknowingly collecting and storing private data, companies could face legal and ethical crises.
“There’s a misconception that protecting privacy limits security teams’ ability to detect malicious activity,” Bondi added. “This is a fallacy.” The solution? Include privacy professionals in AI planning, and treat privacy not as a constraint but as a pillar of sustainable AI security.
AI-Driven Threats: Speed, Scale, and Zero-Day Attacks
On the offense, AI tools are already transforming the threat landscape. Venky Raju, Field CTO at ColorTokens, described how attackers are leveraging AI for social engineering, spearphishing, and vulnerability exploitation, often without even needing source code access.
“AI-based fuzzing tools can identify vulnerabilities without access to the source code,” Raju noted. “Zero-day attacks are a significant concern.”
This reality demands more than patching – it requires preemptive defense strategies. Raju advocated for Zero Trust architectures that assume compromise and focus on minimizing blast radius.
“Most cybersecurity products already use ML and GenAI,” he said. “But leaders must go beyond the hype and ask—how does this benefit our teams?” AI threats are real and rising. Only AI-enhanced defenses will keep pace.
