About Starlink by SpaceX:
Starlink is the world’s first and the largest satellite high-speed internet service. It is designed and built to use a low earth orbit for delivering broadband internet that supports online gaming, streaming video calls, and similar services.
According to an article from wikipedia, Starlink announced reaching about 1 million subscribers in December 2022, and the number has gone up to 4 million by September 2024.
By utilizing advanced satellites and user hardware with spacecraft and on-orbit operations experience, Starlink successfully delivers low-latency internet with high speed.
SpaceX, the only satellite operator, is estimated to have reached 13.1 billion US dollars in 2024.
Impact of Starlink in India:
India has nearly 950 million internet users. In 2024 approximately 55% of these users are from remote locations. Unlike traditional internet providers who rely on physical fiber-optic cable networks, Starlink uses satellite connectivity to deliver internet services. Remote areas in India do not get reliable internet services due to the logistical and cost obstacles of laying fiber-optic cables.
With satellite-based internet services, these gaps could be closed.
For users in India, especially from such remote regions, this partnership could deliver a real high-speed internet experience.
