Advancing AI Research Across National Labs
NVIDIA is accelerating seven new AI-powered systems at the DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In collaboration with Oracle and the DOE, NVIDIA is developing Solstice the largest AI supercomputer for scientific discovery which will feature 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. This powerhouse will help advance U.S. leadership in science, security, and energy innovation.
Additionally, the Equinox system, with 10,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, will launch in 2026. Both systems, based at Argonne, will deliver a combined 2,200 exaflops of AI performance. Argonne will also introduce three new NVIDIA-based platforms Tara, Minerva, and Janus designed to expand AI-driven computing for researchers nationwide.
“Argonne’s collaboration with NVIDIA and Oracle represents a pivotal step in advancing the nation’s AI and computing infrastructure,” said Paul K. Kearns, director of Argonne National Laboratory. “Through this partnership, we’re building platforms that redefine performance, scalability and scientific potential.”
Meanwhile, LANL in New Mexico is integrating the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform and Quantum-X800 InfiniBand fabric for its next-generation Mission and Vision systems, which will support both classified and unclassified research. “Our integration of the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform and Quantum X800 InfiniBand fabric represents a transformative advancement of our lab,” noted Thom Mason, director of Los Alamos National Laboratory.
