Grammarly, long known as a trusted AI tool for clear and effective communication, has rolled out a major update to its platform. The company is introducing eight new AI agents, each built to handle specific writing tasks like finding reliable sources, checking for plagiarism, grading against rubrics, and even anticipating how readers are likely to react.
The new agents will debut in Grammarly’s AI-first writing tool, ‘documents. This environment brings intelligent support directly into the writing process, whether students are refining their academic assignments with structured research and feedback or professionals are perfecting business communication for clarity and impact. Grammarly says this launch is just the start of a redesigned, agent-powered platform one that will soon bring intelligent, context-aware support to every place people write and collaborate.

“The launch of our new agents and AI writing surface marks a turning point in how we build products that anticipate user needs,” said Luke Behnke, Grammarly’s VP of Product Management. “We’re moving beyond simple suggestions to intelligent agents that understand context and actively help users achieve their communication goals. This is just the beginning as we develop Grammarly’s new platform that will soon offer agents working seamlessly across all the places students and professionals write and collaborate.”
Replacing Prompt Engineering with Context-Aware Support
Instead of making users write endless prompts, Grammarly’s new agents jump in right away with expert-level guidance. This eliminates guesswork and keeps writers in full control while benefiting from AI that adapts to their goals.
Among the new agents, the Reader Reactions tool predicts how professors, managers, or clients might interpret key points. The AI Grader gives students personalized feedback that matches course rubrics and reflects what instructors are looking for. Meanwhile, the Citation Finder locates evidence and generates accurate citations, and the Expert Review agent delivers field-specific feedback. Grammarly has also added new tools, including a Proofreader for clarity and tone, an AI Detector to verify authenticity, a Plagiarism Checker, and a Paraphraser that helps adjust writing for different tones, styles, and audiences.

Supporting Students and Professionals
For students, these agents bridge the gap between responsible AI use and academic integrity. A recent Grammarly study found a big gap: while two-thirds of employers plan to hire for AI skills by 2025, only 18% of students feel truly prepared to use AI in their careers. Jenny Maxwell, Head of Grammarly for Education, explained: “Students today need AI that enhances their capabilities without undermining their learning. Grammarly’s new agents fill this gap, acting as real partners that guide students to produce better work while ensuring they develop real skills that will serve them throughout their careers.”
Professionals also gain intelligent writing partners. For instance, a marketing director drafting a product launch announcement can use the Reader Reactions agent to assess resonance with different stakeholders, while the Expert Review ensures alignment with industry trends.
By blending context-aware support with user control, Grammarly positions its new AI agents as not just writing assistants, but as transformative tools for academic success and professional growth.
