Dassault Aviation and Thales, through their AI accelerator cortAIx, have formed a major strategic partnership to advance controlled and supervised artificial intelligence for defence aeronautics. Eric Trappier, Chairman & CEO of Dassault Aviation, and Patrice Caine, Chairman & CEO of Thales, formally signed the agreement on 18 November. The companies announced this collaboration on 25 November at the Grand Palais in Paris during the International Adopt AI Summit, held under the patronage of the President of France.
Moving forward, the two organisations aim to combine their expertise to accelerate the development of sovereign AI technologies. Dassault Aviation, known for its leadership in collaborative air combat systems, will work closely with cortAIx, Thales’ trusted AI accelerator, to build advanced AI capabilities. These solutions will support a wide range of functions for both manned and unmanned aircraft from observation and situational analysis to decision-making, planning and mission control during military operations.

Highlighting the significance of this alliance, Pascale Lohat, Chief Technical Officer at Dassault Aviation, said, “This partnership is reflected in research and innovation programmes dedicated to the collaborative air combat of the future, with a view to incorporating AI into aeronautical defence systems. It is the culmination of strategic discussions launched by Dassault Aviation and Thales’ AI accelerator, cortAIx, and illustrates our shared commitment to trusted, sovereign and controlled artificial intelligence for the armed forces.”
In addition, both partners are establishing a long-term cooperation model supported by a high-level global ecosystem. They emphasised that all work will adhere to national and European regulations, including the AI Act, ensuring ethical and responsible innovation.

Moreover, the partners showcased their joint strategy during the Adopt AI event on 25 November. They presented a large-scale illustration of their research and innovation ambitions, aligning closely with initiatives supported by the European Defence Fund. In front of leading French and European institutional, academic and industry representatives, Dassault Aviation and Thales through cortAIx outlined their commitment to building controlled, supervised, sovereign and secure AI systems designed to support humanity and strengthen defence capabilities.
