AI Technology Insights (AIT): Hi, Chris, welcome to the AI Technology Top Voice Interview Series. Please tell us about your current role at Squirro and how you reached here.
Chris Corrado : Thanks, Sudipto, it’s a pleasure to participate. I’m currently the CEO Americas and President at Squirro. My journey here is a direct result of over four decades in business, working across the US, Europe, and Asia. I’ve been fortunate to gain diverse experience in sectors such as financial services, computer services and telecommunications, holding leadership roles including COO, CIO, CTO, and heading up entire CISO functions. So, yes, I’ve witnessed several profound technological shifts – from mainframe computing and distributed systems to the internet and the cloud. But there’s no doubt that the current wave driven by AI is the most impactful yet. Its sheer potential is why I wanted to get involved, to drive rapid transformative change on a global scale.
AIT: Tell us more about Squirro. What are your key offerings? How are you transforming the “Gen AI Engineering” landscape across complex, data-rich environments?
Chris: Squirro is at the forefront of ‘Gen AI Engineering’ because we provide an enterprise-grade platform uniquely tailored for organizations operating in complex, data-rich environments, especially within highly regulated industries such as financial services, government, and manufacturing. Our core offering in Generative AI delivers unparalleled accuracy, enterprise-grade security, and scalable performance, all while ensuring strict compliance and data privacy. What truly sets Squirro apart is our ability to transform fragmented data silos into actionable, real-time insights by combining retrieval augmented generation (RAG) with knowledge graphs and other advanced technologies. This lets our clients automate critical processes, enhance decision-making with trustworthy AI, and ultimately, drive significant efficiency and growth.

AIT: Tell us more about your AI initiatives in the US market. Which industries are you currently focusing on?
Chris: We are one of a small group of GenAI platform providers to have successfully cracked the code for delivering fully privacy-enabled, compliance-ready GenAI at scale. We’ve proven this through significant deployments with customers including the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, Deutsche Bundesbank, and, more recently, Security Benefit. Given this track record, we’re seeing growing demand across financial services, wealth and asset management, and financial regulatory compliance, which naturally makes these the primary focus of our development and market expansion efforts.
AIT: What’s Squirro’s plan under your leadership to grow in the Americas and help companies integrate AI with their existing systems?
Chris: While Squirro is headquartered in Switzerland, most demand for GenAI within banking and financial services is clearly coming from financial institutions located on the US East Coast. This has led us to strategically recalibrate our marketing, business development, and sales efforts to significantly scale our footprint here in the US. We are now actively leveraging our growing partner ecosystem, which includes several key systems integrators and hyperscalers, to replicate the successes we’ve seen in past deployments.
AIT: Squirro was recently named an “Emerging Leader” in the Gartner Innovation Guide for GenAI Technologies. How does the company’s approach to precision, security, and scalability position it to lead the market in transforming enterprises across highly regulated industries?
Chris: We’re experiencing fantastic momentum, reflected in a very robust implementation pipeline, particularly within highly regulated sectors such as government and financial services. These industries need more than just innovation; they need the highest levels of trust, compliance, and precision. Our entire approach is predicated on building that confidence. We believe that our core strengths in enterprise security, data privacy, deep contextual intelligence, and deployment flexibility are what truly differentiate us and enable us to drive a tangible, meaningful impact for our clients in these complex, data-rich environments. I would expect our recognition as an emerging leader by Gartner to further accelerate this positive momentum.
AIT: Could you tell us about your best customer success story that changed your view about the GenAI engineering market? What keeps Squirro ahead in the Customer Experience (CX) race compared to the competitors?
Chris: Our engagement with a prominent wealth management organization seeking to supercharge their onboarding process for new client advisors left us with a deeper appreciation for the unique value we deliver. Initially, this organization tasked its internal teams – specialists with intimate knowledge of their business model – with implementing the solution. But after running into difficulties in scaling it to production, they reached out for our support. This experience showed us just how valuable our expertise in orchestrating the complex, multi-system integration required for enterprise GenAI is, covering aspects from data retrieval and access control management to compliance, response generation, and workflow automation. Ultimately, it’s this deep expertise that keeps Squirro at the forefront of the customer experience landscape.

AIT: What do you see as the next key milestones for Squirro’s continued leadership in this space?
Chris: At this point, our primary focus is on redefining our go-to-market processes to further expand our customer footprint across the US, European, and Asian markets. This will involve leveraging our growing partner ecosystem and capitalizing on our deep expertise in supporting customers in their efforts to deploy GenAI at scale.
AIT: As Squirro scales its Enterprise GenAI platform, how do you manage the delicate balance between meeting internal requirements, client expectations, and the ever-evolving regulatory landscape, especially when it comes to AI auditability and compliance?
Chris: This is a challenge that is near and dear to my heart. In a previous role, we faced internal audits, external audits, client audits, and regulator audits all running at the same time. It’s a high-stakes environment where getting it wrong comes with significant consequences. If you don’t have your act together, it’s easy to make mistakes. Imagine, for example, responding to an external audit and receiving a material weakness finding because your IT general controls are deficient. Responding to all these demands in an accurate, predictable, and defensible way is a huge operational burden. That’s precisely why a compliance-ready, fully traceable platform like Squirro not only saves time but also dramatically mitigates risks and liabilities.
AIT: With increasing scrutiny on AI’s ethical use and transparency, how is Squirro ensuring that its GenAI solutions not only meet regulatory standards but also address the concerns of clients and external auditors regarding data privacy, explainability, and accountability?
Chris: One component of our offering that consistently captures the attention of prospective clients is our ability to robustly enforce access control lists at the enterprise level. This ensures that the GenAI only exposes sensitive corporate data to users authorized to view it. Then, our RAG platform grounds answers in internal data, providing transparent references and full lineage, ensuring complete explainability and accountability. Finally, we offer a versatile guardrail management system that lets users ensure that GenAI outputs are always fully aligned with both corporate policies and evolving regulatory requirements.
AIT: What events are you attending this year? Which startups and AI communities are you following to stay close to the technology and business initiatives in the industry?
Chris: This June, Squirro will be attending Semantic Data Europe 2025 in London, and in November, we’ll again be attending KMWorld, the premier event exploring the interface between AI and enterprise knowledge management. We also host monthly webinars that provide a great opportunity to learn about our platform and ask questions directly.
