ABS and Persona AI signed a memorandum of understanding, formally launching a groundbreaking collaboration to develop inspection technology for Persona AI’s humanoid robotic platform to enhance productivity and safety in shipyards.
The program will focus on adapting Persona AI’s humanoid robots to perform a range of shipyard tasks. These robots are based in part on NASA’s robotic hand technology. Unlike traditional industrial robots, humanoid robots are particularly well-suited to shipyards designed for human workers, providing flexibility and maneuverability in complex, confined, or ergonomically demanding spaces.

Under the memorandum of understanding, ABS and Persona AI will collaborate on a series of joint development projects to collect data to support classification certification during the ship construction process.
Ultimately, this collaboration will lead to the development of new ABS standards that define the type and quality of data required to support digital and remote survey technologies. These standards will not only guide future robot designs but also help understand how robot data should be collected, evaluated, and applied to meet certification and compliance requirements.
