At Embedded World, Altera is demonstrating how its Agilex FPGA portfolio addresses the growing demands of physical AI systems that require real-time sensing, processing, and decision-making at the edge. Through collaborations with multiple ecosystem partners, the company is highlighting a unified sensor-to-actuator architecture designed to deliver deterministic performance, safety, and adaptability for next-generation robotics, industrial vision systems, and autonomous edge applications.
As physical AI continues to expand across industries such as robotics, smart infrastructure, industrial automation, and autonomous machinery, systems must meet stringent requirements. These include deterministic latency, energy efficiency, functional safety, and strong security frameworks, while also supporting long operational lifecycles. To address these challenges, Altera is positioning its Agilex FPGA platforms as adaptable computing engines capable of handling complex workloads, ranging from multi-sensor data ingestion and AI inference to real-time control operations.

During the event, Altera is presenting several live demonstrations to illustrate how FPGAs enable intelligent edge systems. These demos highlight real-world use cases where low-latency processing and AI-driven insights are critical. One demonstration features an AI-enabled high-definition camera system with an advanced sensor fusion pipeline. This setup supports multi-camera data ingestion, synchronization, and image stitching, which is particularly valuable in industrial monitoring environments where precision and situational awareness are essential.
In addition, the company is showcasing high-resolution imaging pre-processing and enhancement technologies tailored for advanced medical imaging systems. By leveraging FPGA acceleration, these systems can improve image clarity and processing speed, enabling more accurate diagnostics and faster analysis.
Another highlight is a robotics demonstration that showcases deterministic, low-latency control with closed-loop autonomous operation. This setup illustrates how edge-based AI combined with FPGA architecture enables robots to sense environmental inputs, process information instantly, and execute precise actions without relying on centralized computing infrastructure.

All demonstrations run on Agilex 3 and Agilex 5 FPGA and system-on-chip (SoC) platforms, which are optimized for deterministic and real-time edge deployments. Because of their reconfigurable architecture, developers can adapt these platforms to evolving sensors, AI models, and workloads. Moreover, the devices support flexible design partitioning, enabling functions such as bridging, data aggregation, AI acceleration, or standalone inference within the same system.
Agilex devices also integrate distributed AI tensor blocks, ARM-based processors, support for advanced LPDDR5 and DDR5 memory, and high-performance I/O connectivity. Together, these features accelerate sensor fusion, AI inference, and real-time control, allowing systems to efficiently process data and scale computing performance for emerging robotics and industrial AI workloads.
“We are entering the era of physical AI, where machines must not only perceive the world, but act on it instantly, securely, and safely,” said Venkat Yadavalli. “With Agilex, Altera delivers purpose-built FPGA architectures that combine deterministic performance, adaptability, and long lifecycle support to power robotics, autonomous systems, and safety-critical edge applications.”
Furthermore, Altera’s broader physical AI portfolio includes hardware, software, optimized IP, and development tools such as Quartus Prime and the FPGA AI Suite. By enabling AI inference directly within FPGA fabric through integrated AI tensor blocks, developers can deploy low-power, real-time AI acceleration using familiar FPGA workflows. Consequently, this approach simplifies integration, reduces system complexity, and accelerates time to market for advanced edge-AI solutions.
