Keysight Technologies, Inc. has entered into a strategic collaboration with Point2 Technology to validate next-generation, multi-terabit interconnect solutions aimed at removing scale-up connectivity bottlenecks in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) data centers. As AI-driven workloads continue to surge, the two companies are working together to ensure that future hyperscale infrastructure can meet growing performance, power efficiency, and reliability demands.

Through this collaboration, Keysight is leveraging its advanced high-speed digital test portfolio, including the M8050A High-Performance Bit Error Ratio Tester (BERT) and DCA-X Sampling Oscilloscopes, to validate Point2’s innovative e-Tube interconnect technology. This validation process focuses on meeting the stringent requirements of hyperscaler AI environments, where even minor inefficiencies can significantly impact system performance at scale.

As hyperscalers expand xPU clusters to support increasingly complex AI and ML models, interconnect limitations have emerged as a critical challenge. Traditional copper-based connections struggle to deliver the necessary reach and bandwidth without excessive power consumption, while optical solutions often introduce higher costs and latency. To address these issues, Point2’s e-Tube technology employs RF data transmission over plastic waveguides, enabling a fundamentally different approach to scale-up connectivity.

Notably, the e-Tube platform is designed to deliver up to ten times longer reach than conventional copper solutions at a comparable cost structure. In addition, it offers up to three times lower power and cost while achieving up to 1,000 times lower latency compared to optical interconnects. As a result, the technology provides data center architects with an energy-efficient, high-density alternative that can replace copper and potentially eliminate interconnect bottlenecks within large xPU clusters.

Meanwhile, Keysight is supplying a comprehensive validation and characterization framework to accelerate industry innovation. By enabling early-stage research and development on emerging 3.2T interfaces, Keysight is helping technology providers prepare for the next wave of AI infrastructure. This effort is supported by Keysight’s unique ability to generate 448 Gbps electrical signals, combined with advanced real-time and sampling oscilloscope analysis.

The collaboration also relies on Keysight’s ability to generate and analyze complex 120 GBaud PAM4 signals, which are essential for achieving 1.6-terabit speeds. These capabilities allow both companies to test interconnect performance under realistic operating conditions, ensuring reliability at multi-terabit data rates.
