Nota AI, led by CEO Myungsu Chae, has announced a major step in its global expansion by signing a contract to supply its Smart Intersection System technology for the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) construction project in Nairobi, Kenya. With this agreement, the company continues to strengthen its position as a key innovator in AI model compression and optimization for smart mobility solutions.
The project forms part of a broader Traffic Control Center establishment initiative jointly led by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and LG CNS. Under this framework, HANIL STM will oversee system design and management, while Nota AI will take charge of implementing and supplying the Smart Intersection System. Notably, the system is built on Nota AI’s proprietary AI compression and optimization technology and is specifically designed for edge computing environments.

At the core of Nota AI’s offering lies its ability to significantly reduce the computational complexity and memory usage of AI models. As a result, these optimized models can run efficiently on edge devices, making them ideal for scenarios that demand low power consumption and minimal latency. Consequently, this approach addresses key challenges faced by urban traffic systems, particularly in rapidly growing cities such as Nairobi.
The newly introduced Smart Intersection System is expected to play a critical role in improving traffic flow and intersection efficiency. Instead of relying on centralized servers, the system compresses the required analysis models and deploys them directly on local CCTV infrastructure at intersections. This enables real-time classification of vehicle types, as well as accurate analysis of traffic volume, queue length, and other essential traffic conditions. Moreover, thanks to its advanced compression technology, a single edge device can manage multiple CCTV channels simultaneously, leading to substantial cost efficiencies.
In addition to real-time monitoring, the system allows traffic managers to leverage collected data for long-term planning and operational improvements. Because all analysis processes run within an edge environment, the solution ensures stable performance while also reducing the need for extensive server construction and ongoing maintenance. This balance of performance and cost-effectiveness makes the system particularly attractive for large-scale urban deployments.

Nota AI’s technological capabilities have already gained recognition through multiple ITS performance evaluations and technology verifications conducted by companies and local governments. Both the Smart Intersection System and the Emergency Situation Detection System, developed using Nota AI’s technology, achieved the “Highest Grade” in basic ITS performance evaluations, where real-time accuracy and responsiveness are crucial benchmarks. Furthermore, the company recently completed the Yeongcheon ITS reinforcement project, recording an impressive average performance rate of 99.5% across all evaluation criteria.
Building on this strong foundation, Nota AI is accelerating the commercialization of its ITS technologies worldwide. The company has demonstrated its solutions across the Middle East and North America, including a partnership with UAE-based transport infrastructure firm ATS, a contract with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and successful verification projects with Sony in Lakewood, USA. Through its participation in the Nairobi project, Nota AI now extends its footprint into the African market.
Myungsu Chae, CEO of Nota AI, stated, “We are delighted that Nota AI’s AI compression and optimization technology will contribute to traffic innovation in Nairobi, following our success in Dubai. By successfully completing this project, we will further expand the influence of our AI compression and optimization technology in the global market.”
