Veolia Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) has partnered with U.S.-based EverestLabs, a global leader in AI and robotics for recycling, to transform sorting operations at one of its material recovery facilities (MRFs) in Perth. This collaboration is the first time EverestLabs’ advanced technology is being used in the region, setting a new benchmark for recycling innovation.
This initiative aligns with Veolia’s global mission to modernize recycling infrastructure and drive circular economy outcomes through cutting-edge technology. By deploying EverestLabs’ modular vision AI and robotic sorting solution, Veolia ANZ will gain real-time insights into plant operations, overcome workforce challenges, and significantly boost material recovery rates.

Richard Kirkman, CEO & Managing Director of Veolia ANZ, highlighted the importance of AI in resource recovery: “It is in these repetitive processes, where machines can learn through AI and be guided by human intervention, that smart tech can be most useful especially in Veolia’s world-leading resource recovery facilities and our rapidly expanding sector.”
What makes EverestLabs’ award-winning RecycleOS stand out is how quickly it can be up and running, its impressive accuracy, and its flexible design that easily fits into existing MRF operations. Each robotic cell uses vision AI to scan and recognize recyclables instantly. Once identified, robotic arms sort targeted items directly from the conveyor belt with a 90% pick success rate up to three times faster than manual sorting while maintaining continuous 24/7 operations.
EverestLabs’ robots are different from traditional automation systems they’re compact, quick to install, and can be up and running in just a few hours without major retrofits. Moreover, they are continuously monitored by the company’s Robotic Operations Center to ensure consistent and efficient performance. This allows Veolia ANZ to recover more high-quality materials, cut back on landfill use, and improve workplace safety by taking people out of dangerous sorting areas.

Jagadeesh Ambati, CEO and Founder of EverestLabs, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration:
“We’re proud to support Veolia Australia’s bold step forward in modernizing recycling operations. Our robotic systems are doing the heavy lifting identifying, sorting, and reporting in real time so facilities can focus on running more efficiently, sustainably, and safely.”
This milestone not only strengthens Veolia’s position as a pioneer in sustainable waste management but also marks EverestLabs’ expansion into international markets. Building on its success in the U.S., where it works with industry leaders such as Republic Services, Waste Connections, and Novelis, EverestLabs is now extending its data-driven recycling solutions to Australia, reinforcing a global shift toward smarter, safer, and more sustainable waste recovery.
