Cerence Inc., known globally as Cerence AI, has partnered with HARMAN to transform the in-car audio experience. The company announced the integration of its advanced Audio AI suite into HARMAN’s AudioworX, a cutting-edge platform that streamlines the development of high-quality automotive audio products. This collaboration unites Cerence AI’s expertise in conversational and audio AI with HARMAN’s innovative audio framework, delivering a new level of clarity, safety, and passenger comfort.

With this integration, AudioworX now features Cerence Speech Signal Enhancement (SSE), In-Car Communication (ICC), and Emergency Vehicle Detection (EVD). These capabilities enable crystal-clear conversations, optimized sound quality, and advanced safety alerts for drivers. SSE, for instance, uses speech enhancement technologies to eliminate unwanted background noise, create personalized speaking zones, and improve the performance of voice assistants and phone calls inside the car.

Meanwhile, ICC functions as an in-vehicle intercom system, allowing passengers and drivers to communicate easily without raising their voices or turning around an especially valuable feature for larger vehicles. On the safety front, EVD detects approaching emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks. By leveraging the car’s existing microphones, it accurately identifies siren signals, determines their direction, and alerts the driver in real time.

According to Nils Schanz, Executive Vice President of Product & Technology at Cerence AI, “The car can be a noisy space, and Cerence’s Audio AI suite is designed to ensure drivers, passengers, and assistants can listen and be heard clearly while also enhancing safety. Partnering with HARMAN AudioworX extends access to our core technologies, empowering automakers to deliver superior voice interactions that focus on clarity, safety, and comfort.”
