Perforce Software, a provider of solutions to enterprise teams requiring productivity, visibility, and scale along the development lifecycle, announced the launch of the Zend 2024 PHP Landscape Survey.
The survey, which measures the key trends shaping the PHP ecosystem, will run through the end of the year – with the resulting data to be used in the creation of the 2024 PHP Landscape Report.
“2023 has been a year of transition for the PHP ecosystem, with many companies focused on migrating their PHP from 7.4 to 8.x.” said Matthew Weier O’Phinney, Senior Product Manager at Zend by Perforce. “We hope that our new survey, in addition to showing the most used PHP tools and technologies, will help to shed light on the state of these migrations, and what we can expect PHP version adoption to look like in 2024 and beyond.”

The 2023 PHP Landscape Report, which attracted responses from PHP developers and users around the world, notably revealed a lag in PHP version adoption. Over 61% of PHP teams reported using non-community supported PHP versions in production, with 54% of those teams using PHP 7.4 at the time of the survey. 68% of respondents reported a planned PHP migration within the next 12 months.
“Our 2023 report showed that companies, for a variety of reasons, do not, or cannot prioritize keeping their applications on community-supported PHP versions,” continued Matthew Weier O’Phinney. “This year, we redesigned the survey to better document and understand PHP migration strategy for those who deploy PHP, and to get a better sense of the compliance needs that shape those migration or LTS decisions.”

The 2024 PHP Landscape Survey will again be raising money for a good cause. For every response to the survey, Zend will be donating $1 to Code2040, a non-profit that works to dismantle the structural barriers that prevent the full participation and leadership of Black and Latinx people in the innovation economy.
